Andrea Caban is Professor and Head of Voice & Speech at California State University, Long Beach, and Co-Director and designated Master Teacher of Knight-Thompson Speechwork®(KTS), an international organization dedicated to training speech and accent specialists in rigorous, inclusive speech pedagogy for actors. She has held both her position at CSULB and her position with KTS for 11 years. Professor Caban is the co-author in common for the two most recent KTS texts on speech and accent training. The first, Experiencing Speech: A Skills-based Panlingual Approach to Actor Training, was published in 2021 by Routledge Academic Publishing, and is being adopted by top drama schools internationally. She was awarded the Borchard Foundation Scholar-in-Residence Award to develop this text. The second text, Experiencing Accents: A Knight-Thompson Speechwork Guide for Acting in Accent, was published in November of 2023, also with Routledge.

Caban is a professional accent coach for film and theatre. Notable coaching credits include several plays at the Tony Award-winning South Coast Repertory Theatre (Absurd Person Singular, Chinglish, Death of a Salesman, Madwomen in a Volvo & Peter and the Starcatcher). She is the accent expert on HowCast.com, demonstrating over 30 accents. She is currently collaborating with Francis Ford Coppola on his career opus film Megalopolis.

Professor Caban has been an invited master teacher at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, and the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Sydney, training voice and speech specialists in her approach.
