Barbara Tanze is a vocal pedagogue, voice rehabilitation practitioner, researcher and educator whose work focuses on the interaction between voice, physiology, movement and learning. She teaches at the Akademija za glasbo, University of Ljubljana, and holds a Master’s degree in Music Pedagogy with a major in Instrumental/Vocal Teaching from HEMU Lausanne.
Barbara is the founder of Zavod Voice Up, an organisation dedicated to education and research in voice, and the inventor of the Flexiflow, a patented biofeedback device that provides visible, audible and tactile feedback about airflow, with and without phonation. Her work combines physiological understanding with practical experimentation, helping singers and voice professionals develop more precise and functional ways of understanding vocal production.
Barbara is currently pursuing a PhD in Music Pedagogy at the University of Ljubljana, where her research explores expiratory pressure regulation in singing, with a particular focus on biomechanics, singers’ mental models and inquiry-based learning in vocal pedagogy.
Barbara regularly teaches and presents internationally on voice, breathing and vocal function, and is passionate about bridging scientific knowledge and practical vocal pedagogy. Her teaching encourages curiosity, critical thinking and experimentation rather than reliance on generalized instructions or fixed techniques.
