Dr Yoon Irons is Associate Professor of Arts for Health and Wellbeing at University of Derby, where she is director of singing research lab. For almost two decades, she has been conducting research to evaluate the benefits of group singing for people with long-term health conditions, including chronic pain, respiratory illnesses (Cystic Fibrosis, COPD), neurological conditions (Parkinson’s, Stroke). She’s also been undertaking research into social prescribing to promote health and wellbeing for diverse communities.
Yoon's recent book "Singing" is the first book aimed at supporting singing practitioners and lay people to adopt singing for health and wellbeing. Prior to her academic post, Yoon worked as a music therapist in the UK, Germany, and Australia. Yoon is a singer and musician, calling all to join her campaign "Song a day keeps the doctor away!".
