Overview
This five-part certificate course is designed to help participants learn the theory and practice of trauma-informed approaches. The concepts and activities included are tailored to meet the needs of voice specialists who want to acquire more specific tools to navigate the space with their students and colleagues.
Over the course of five sessions, we will learn about the ever-evolving definition of trauma and organic concept of trauma-informed care. We will learn about the impact of trauma on physiology, interpersonal dynamics, and voice. We will reflect on the implications of what we learn in the context of our daily life. Importantly, we will engage in exercises and activities to bring the acquired knowledge into the day-to-day practical dynamics of the voice studio.
Participants will be encouraged to bring their questions and current situations into the sessions, to transition from “what I know” to “what I can do” in a specific and targeted manner.
Over the years, voice specialists have pondered on how to approach the presence or potential presence of trauma in the voice care and/or voice training context. We will spend some time reflecting and debunking some lingering myths about in-scope and out-of-scope limitations and metabolizing helpful quick tools that can work quickly.
In this course, we will learn that voice specialist can address the trauma-informed philosophy in an empowered and relaxed manner, with a clear sense of tools, boundaries, and resources for themselves and their students.
This course is fully accredited by The Institute of Training and Occupational Learning (ITOL).
Upon completion of the course you will receive an official ITOL branded certificate to confirm your accreditation.

- Praxis and Technique – You will embed the knowledge into your practice and consider how an understanding of the impact of trauma on the individual may shape your practice
- Research and Communication – You will submit a 2,000-word review illustrating contextual knowledge, critical thinking, boundary awareness, and practice implications.
