Susan McPhail

Susan is a singing teacher and community choir director based in South Queensferry, just outside Edinburgh. She works with primary and secondary children for the National Youth Choir of Scotland and has benefited from their training in Kodaly methodology and musicianship.

Passionate about inclusivity, Susan enjoys teaching adults who have been discouraged from singing at some point in their lives, believing that singing together is one of the oldest aspects of human culture.

She helps lead a local singing group for people with dementia and is a member of the NYCOS online singing choir with Paul Whittaker OBE.

Susan has been exploring signed singing with her choirs and singing students. Having grown up singing in her mother’s choirs and initially starting with a degree in Physics and Applied Maths, she now cherishes the joy of working full-time in music. Susan hopes to gain a deeper understanding of her craft through this Master’s course.
