Dr. Sunny Sandhu, also known by his artistic name Bhoomitra (“Friend of Earth”), is a doctor, musician, and environmental activist dedicated to exploring the healing power of sound and its connection with nature. Originally from Punjab, India, he graduated in medicine from AIIMS, New Delhi, and was deeply influenced by Dr. R.K. Bijlani’s research on yoga and physiology. His musical path led him to the ancient vocal art of Dhrupad, which he studied under Ustad Asad Ali Khan, discovering its profound therapeutic dimension.

In 2016, Dr. Sandhu founded Atelier Om in Thorenc, France, a space devoted to music therapy, sound yoga, Ayurveda, and meditation. Through workshops, classes, and retreats, he offers participants tools for vocal development, mental well-being, and deeper connection with themselves. His work bridges traditions of Indian classical music with contemporary needs for mindfulness and holistic health.

As Bhoomitra, Dr. Sandhu develops creative projects combining music and ecological awareness. He composes songs dedicated to rivers, dolphins, and forests, organizes concerts and festivals, and collaborates with artists, healers, and communities worldwide. His Bhoomitra Beda Yatra—a cultural journey along the Beas River—has brought attention to the endangered Indus River Dolphin and the urgent need for conservation in Punjab.

Dividing his time between France and India, he continues to create, teach, and advocate for a harmonious relationship between humans and the environment. In 2020 and 2024 he received the Beyond Music Creativity Award for his work on songs like Si Ghan and I need a victory .
