Meet Our Students: Zoe Stibi

Thursday 23rd November 2023

Zoe Stibi (BMus, MA, Estill EMT) is a classically trained soprano turned voice teacher who has dedicated nearly 50 hours to continuing professional development (CPD) through the Voice Study Centre’s Online Short Courses since the beginning of 2022 alone.

Originally from New Zealand, Zoe started singing lessons at around 15 years old when she appeared in The Sound of Music and just couldn’t hit any high notes at all. From this point, she focused on musicals and went on to perform in the likes of Grease, Les Miserables and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

With a Bachelor of Music History degree already under her belt, she then went on to attain her MA in Musical Theatre from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and admits it has been one of the hardest things she has ever done in her life.

After graduating, and through frustration at not getting the right support she needed, Zoe decided to move to London to pursue her performing career. Here, she built a vocal studio full of amazing individuals, some of whom have continued to stay with her via online voice lessons despite her moving to Germany. Zoe became an Estill EMT in 2017 and has been teaching near the city of Munich ever since.

Throughout her teaching, Zoe vows to make vocal technique accessible to those who love singing, and to use her 15 years of experience to show that everyone can learn to sing. Living abroad with the need to maintain a busy schedule, she appreciates the value of the Voice Study Centre’s recording playback scheme for its online short courses. “I love that I can watch them again and again. I often can’t be there for the live events, but I watch them the next day in my own time”, she says.

Zoe was initially attracted to the Voice Study Centre due to its wide array of courses which enable her to “stay up to date with the newest research and information in the singing world as a solo self-employed teacher”. Jeremy Mossman and Kerrie Obert have been among her favourite presenters so far.

Zoe plans to continue learning through the Voice Study Centre and also to grow as a voice teacher on YouTube, where her Zoe Stibi Vocal Coach channel currently has over 75,000 subscribers! You can find her on Instagram at @zoestibivocalcoach too, and she hopes to connect with other VSC course attendees through her podcast, Sing Without Strain.
