Linear and Non-linear Mechanisms of Human Sound Production

This course will review the basics of self-sustained vocal fold vibration, excitation of the vocal tract, wave propagation and resonance.
We will explain concepts of non-linearity and clarify which aspects of the system are non-linear.
You will leave with a firmer understanding of the sound production process.

Dr Story received his BS in Applied Physics from the University of Northern Iowa in 1987 and his PhD in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Iowa in 1995...
Dr Ingo Titze
Dr Ingo Titze, educated as a physicist (Ph.D.) and engineer (M.S.E.E.), has applied his scientific knowledge to a lifelong love of clinical voice and vocal music. He has written over 500 publications and six books in voice production. He is currently Senior Scientist at the University of Utah Center for Vocology and Chairman of the Board of the National Center for Voice and Speech.
