Pedagogic Misconceptions and Their Correction
Thursday 21st November 2024, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM (London Time)
Things are not always as they seem. Many fairly prevalent conceptions of vocal function and resultant studio directives are either inaccurate in part or in whole, misleading, and therefore in need of correction or at least significant qualification.
This presentation will list a number of them, suggest why they may have evolved (what value they may legitimately offer), supplant those that frankly misdirect function, and qualify those that merely need adjustment or clarification. Examples include matters of laryngeal location relative to function; position of mouth, lips, tongue, extent of jaw opening; respiratory function; and vocal registration. Corrections are drawn from correlations between successful historic pedagogy, emerging voice science, acoustic vocal pedagogy, and the experience-gleaned observations of the presenter.
