It holds true that improving vocal technique creates better sound and vocal freedom. But what if I told you there’s a hidden physical issue preventing some singers from progressing—one that most pedagogues, teachers, and even medical professionals are unaware of…?
Tongue ties aren’t just a lisp or a speech concern- they are much more common and pervasive than we think. They can directly limit vocal ease, range, breath-support engagement, and can even cause body pain. Yet, tongue ties are often missed the by singer, the teacher, and even the singing community simply because we don’t know to look for them; we misattribute its effects to tension or poor technical habits.
The problem? No amount of vocal technique can improve a structural limitation. These singers work harder, learn more, practice more, and yet still struggle with the same technical issues over and over. These singers are often labelled as technically (or even mentally) ‘deficient’ when, in reality, their anatomy is limiting them.
When we learn to identify tongue ties, everything changes. Both teachers and singers gain powerful clarity to finally pinpoint the root cause of persistent issues. With proper care, these singers can experience immediate improvements in practically every aspect of their vocal technique: freedom and ease, range, vowel clarity, breathiness, stamina- not to mention radical changes in their self-confidence and outlook. What's more is these amazing results are immediate, last forever and, quite frankly, changes entire careers and lives.

Low Male Voices (LMVs): Development, Technique, and Repertoire
Dr Dann Mitton
Join Dr Dann Mitton for this two hour workshop where he explores the Development, Techniques, and Repertoire favoured for Low Male Voices (LMVs). Typically labelled as 'Bass' and 'Baritone', these classifications are used in classical music, choral settings, and vocal pedagogy to help determine suitable repertoire and vocal roles. In contemporary music, the distinctions are less rigid but still useful for understanding vocal range and timbre.

Picking Up Good Vibrations: Pedagogical and Clinical Voice Analysis!
Dr Calvin Baker
Voice teachers and clinicians strongly rely on auditory perceptual modes of voice evaluation. These are considered the gold standard for assessing voice quality and training effects (e.g., a singer’s progress from lesson to lesson or across voice therapy). Join Dr Calvin Baker as he explores techniques for instrumentally analysing the singing voice. Specific considerations for the challenges of obtaining reliable, robust, and comparable data will be presented, and practical recommendations for recording and analysing the singing voice in pedagogical and clinical contexts will be made.
