Wende Donahue is a voice teacher, performer, choir director, computer programmer and researcher with over 35 years of experience in vocal education and performance. Her work brings together her extensive experience as a vocal educator with her interest in technology, research and the future of voice teaching.
Wende’s current research explores the role of artificial intelligence in vocal education, with a particular focus on how AI can be integrated into voice teaching in ethical, practical and meaningful ways. Her mixed-methods study, A Mixed-Methods Study of Vocal Educators’ Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence in Vocal Education: Exploring Hopes, Concerns, and Strategies for Effective Integration, examines vocal educators’ perspectives on the opportunities and challenges presented by AI.
Through her research, Wende advocates for vocal educators to have an active voice in the development and implementation of AI technologies, emphasising the importance of pedagogical relevance, ethical practice, collaboration and practitioner-informed decision-making.
Her work brings together her interests in voice pedagogy, technology and research, exploring how emerging technologies can support, rather than replace, the expertise and human connection at the heart of vocal education.
