Jeanne Goffi-Fynn is currently program director and senior lecturer in the Program of Music and Music Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her areas of interest include the performance of singers across the lifespan, applied studio teaching, voice development and Pedagogy across various styles, collaborative mentoring, and ensemble singing. She is also a singing voice specialist whose expertise is in the retraining of singers with muscle tension dysphonia (MTD). Prior to joining Teachers College, she served in the faculty of New York University, the New School Actors Studio MFA Program, William Paterson University, and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA). Goffi-Fynn has completed internships in vocology at the Grabscheid Voice Center at Mt. Sinai Hospital and St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital, both in New York City. She has presented workshops, master classes and pedagogical presentations for numerous organizations, including the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), New York Singing Teachers Association (NYSTA), College Music Society (CMS), International Congress of Voice Teachers (ICVT), Voice Foundation, American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), and the International Society for Music Education (ISME). She is a member of the American Academy of Teachers of Singing (AATS) and collaborates with Opera America through their singers training forum, board of overseers, and strategic committee.
She has published in the Journal of Voice, Journal of Singing, and has a new book coming out spring 2025, “Student-Centered Voice Pedagogy: Working with Students toward Developing Artistry, Authenticity, and Autonomy".
She is past president of NATS-NYC and chair of the national NATS mentoring initiatives. As founder of the Singers’ Workshops at Teachers College, Goffi-Fynn has developed a program aiding both the education of graduate students and the development of young singers between the ages of 11 and 18. As director of this program, she works to co-create responsive pedagogy in developing the interests and needs of young singers, leading courses on the process of performance, audition preparation, musical theatre workshops, “TBB’ers,” and jazz and gospel workshops. Jeanne’s performance career includes opera, legit musical theatre, choral performances, and solo recitals often with newly commissioned works.
During the summer she teaches at the International Lyric Academy in Vicenza, Italy.

In this seminar, we’ll discuss the five aspects of student-centred pedagogy. Voice instruction is in many ways a personal journey toward artistry and this path involves an intimate and individualized educational experience that occurs between the student and their teacher. This relationship is an integral part of the teaching and learning process.
