Nancy Summitt taught K-12 music for 7 years prior to obtaining her Ph.D from the University of Memphis, and has held past professorships at the University of Tennessee at Martin and DePauw University. She is currently the Assistant Professor of Music Education at Central Michigan University. Her research interests concern the intersection of motivation and music education with the goal of facilitating meaningful music learning for all students. Dr. Summitt has presented at the National Association for Music Education's Biennial Conference, the Southern College Music Society Conference, the Mid-South Research Conference, the Texas Music Educators Association Conference, and the Tennessee Music Educators Association Conference. She has published articles with the International Journal of Music Education, UPDATE, Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, the Missouri Journal of Research in Music Education, InFORM, and Segue.
