Congratulations to Dr Claire Thomas! 🎓
Last week, our Senior Lecturer and Programme Manager, Claire Thomas, celebrated a very special milestone as she graduated with her Professional Doctorate in Elite Performance.
Having successfully completed her doctoral studies, Claire officially received her doctorate at the graduation ceremony, recognising years of academic research and hard work.
Claire's research explored muscle tension dysphonia in the musical theatre voice, adding to the growing body of knowledge surrounding vocal health and musical theatre performance.
Everyone at Voice Study Centre would like to congratulate Dr Claire Thomas on this wonderful achievement. We're proud to have Claire as part of our team and look forward to seeing the continued impact of her work in voice research and education.
Dr Claire Thomas
Claire is a singer, singing teacher and voice researcher. She currently lectures in singing on the Musical Theatre programmes at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and runs a private singing studio just outside Edinburgh.

For harmonica performer and music educator Shima Melvin, this question became the starting point for her postgraduate research with the Voice Study Centre. While developing her approach to teaching harmonica, Shima found herself struggling to explain exactly what was happening inside the instrument when she played. A voice professional includes anyone whose livelihood depends on an effective and pleasing voice - teachers, solicitors, sports coaches, secretaries, and sales personnel. Yesterday, we welcomed back Dr. Robert Sataloff MD, DMA, FACS, for a short course into the diagnosis, medical care, and surgical management of voice patients. Robert is the Director of Otolaryngology at the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Voice, professional singer, and a conductor..
