Breathing and Support Based on Accent Method Breathing

Thursday 16th May 2024, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM (London Time)

In this course, we explore the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system and their application in singing, focusing on Accent Method of Breathing.

Professor Svend Smith designed the Accent Method, a holistic therapy regime that coordinates respiration, phonation, articulation, and resonance to produce clear and well-modulated speech. He then developed Accent Method Breathing, which focuses on enhancing vocal versatility and control. Ron Morris and Janice Chapman pioneered its use in classical singing, adapting it to work within a singing teaching context. Ron Morris and Linda Hutchinson, outlined the technique in their book “If in Doubt, Breathe out!”. The method leverages the respiratory structure to enhance singers’ breath control and support, centered around classical singing.

This course will include a brief overview of Accent Method Breathing, backed by clinical evidence of its efficacy, alongside practical exercises for skill development and application to your singing practice.
