This class will look at the pedagogy of teaching musical theatre singing. We will begin by exploring the flexibility needed for musical theatre singing through definitions, listening exercises, and some historical context. We will then move into a framework for teaching musical theatre singers from beginners to more advanced performers including building exercises and assigning repertoire. We will also look at the needs of musical theatre singers that might differ from other genres, such as the eight show a week performance schedule, the important of acting, and physical demands, such as dancing while singing.
