Unclenching the Jaw: Options from the Physio Lens

Tuesday 16th December 2025, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM (London Time)

£30 - UK £30 - International

“Jaw tension” is one of many potential problems facing the singer, and can cause a direct negative impact on the performance in both direct and indirect ways. The underlying cause of jaw issues is attributed to numerous factors (technique, posture, strength, range of motion, etc.), making it often difficult to identify common denominators. This short course examines the evidence supporting stretching, strengthening, and manual therapy interventions to address jaw-related concerns in vocal performers, taking into account their unique needs.

Using concepts stripped of professional jargon, Walt will guide the learner through simple self-applied or guided exercises to improve jaw freedom and pain. With his background as a physical therapist and involvement in the voice field, Walt will leverage his experience to help the voice coach/teacher and performer improve outcomes by exploring factors that are said to have caused the jaw problem. Conflicts in underlying philosophy are inevitable in voice pedagogy, but simplifying the underlying concepts and reducing jargon can help avoid confusion.
