Vocal Hacks: Solving Common Problems for Singers

Thursday 19th June 2025, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM (London Time)

Certain common vocal problems can affect not only singers in training but professional singers as well. These problems often cause lack of confidence and emotional distress.

In this workshop, participants will learn simple vocal hacks to address such common issues as effortful high notes, straining, compensatory tension, belting, register breaks, pitch problems, vibrato speed and control, excessive breathiness, how to sing when sick, and problems related to vocal aging.

Solutions will begin with the topic of activating a precise support method to increase subglottal pressure enabling efficiency in vocal fold vibrational function, thereby reducing or eliminating compensatory tension in neck, jaw, face, and tongue.

One issue which can be very telling about one’s vocal health and technical ability is vibrato.  Having a too slow vibrato can indicate an aging voice and certain hacks can be used to increase vibrato speed for a younger-sounding effect.  Likewise, in young amateur singers, having a too-fast flutter or warble can sometimes be improved using manual techniques.

Singing teachers who work with the general public in a multitude of styles, ages, and levels, will find these techniques useful adjuncts to their bag of tools so that problems can be resolved quickly. Vocal control, consistency, and confidence are merely the foundation of creating magic with one’s voice.
