Emma Jane Sweeney

Emma Jane Sweeney BA (Hons) MA is a Vocal tutor for Essex Music Service working peripatetically in schools and as a Singing Teacher in her home studio with private students.  Emma graduated from the Voice Study Centre and University of Wales MA in Professional Practice and Voice Pedagogy in 2020 with distinction and is keen to continue her research in practice to further improve the learning experiences of her students.

Emma’s experience is based in Musical Theatre with a background in acting and movement.  Her lessons focus on efficient body and breath coordination, storytelling and emotional connection to the song in performance.  Pedagogically, Emma encourages the use of growth mindset, goal setting and positivity to encourage her students to take ownership of their singing journey.  

After completing a BA Hons in Dance and Drama Emma achieved an MA in Acting Musical Theatre from the Central School of Speech and Drama.  Her theatre performance work has been mainly small scale touring revues, Christmas shows and concerts before embarking on radio presenting and travel news.  Emma has also directed and choreographed a number of local youth musicals and recently co-produced/directed family Christmas Musicals for Brentwood Theatre.

Alongside her teaching and directing work Emma aims to continue her research to keep up to date with current developments in voice research and pedagogy, to inform her teaching practice.
