We’re thrilled to announce that our MA student, May Oskan, was recently featured on an episode of the ‘Intelligent Vocalist Podcast’, hosted by John Henny.

May teaches voice, musicianship, and songwriting from her private studio in Oakland, California, and she has designed curricula and workshops for several other vocal studios. Her research focuses on evidence-informed teaching strategies for popular music singing styles, and she is currently researching tools to encourage creative independence in the music studio and beyond.

In the podcast episode, May delves into the science behind rough vocal effects, discussing techniques and the importance of creating them safely. You can listen to the podcast episode here, or watch it here.

In addition to her podcast feature, May recently presented at the first international conference of the Association of Popular Music Education in Edinburgh. It’s been a busy summer for May, filled with exciting opportunities to share her expertise and research.

This September, May will be teaching a masterclass in rough vocal effect through John Henny’s VoiceSchool program which will be available to subscribers.
