Dalcroze Eurhythmics in the Voice Studio
Thursday 10th September 2026, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM (London Time)
The Dalcroze Method taught by Swiss music teacher Émile Jaques-Dalcroze (1865-1950) has long been valued as a tool for teaching music in group settings (ensembles, choirs, music classes, etc.)
But what about its one-on-one use in the applied voice studio? Dalcroze exercises build musicianship; relieve performance anxiety; develop stage presence; hone rhythmic precision; strengthen physical alignment, balance, and coordination; enhance the power of expression; improve physical awareness; and expand theoretical knowledge and ear training through kinesthesia. Through the employ of Dalcroze movements and concepts, singers and teachers explore music in ways that reduce tension and increase the fun of music making, while encouraging discovery of technical and theoretical skill-building practices.
Participants in this interactive short course will first learn about the history and principles of this important method of music education. They will then put it into practice by performing movement exercises, quickreaction exercises, and more. By the end of this session attendees will move, walk, sing, dance, gesture, and clap while discovering new ways to enhance music performance and pedagogy in the applied voice studio.
