The Integration Of A Science-Informed Approach To The Application Of Teaching Singing

This workshop focuses on practical application and is based on Kari’s recent book Systematic Approach to Voice: The Art of Studio Application” published by Plural Publishing.
It looks at working with techniques with three key singers.
There will be an opportunity to observe, ask questions and develop pedagogically.
The workshop is ideal for those who wish to develop their practical application.
The workshop will take the following format:
5:00pm-5:15pm welcome and introduction
5:15pm-5:45pm Singer #1 (Female Classical) to demonstrate a specific protocol
5.45-6:15 Singer #2 (Music Theatre-emphasis on female belt aesthetic)
6:15pm-6:45pm Singer #3 Singer with injury/pathology
6.45pm – Q&A time
All sessions are recorded and will be sent out to all registered participants.
Dr Kari Ragan
Singer, author, and voice pedagogue Kari Ragan holds degrees from the University of Washington (DMA) and Indiana University (MM, BM). She was the recipient of the prestigious Van L. Lawrence Award (2012), the NATS Foundation Pedagogy Award (2009), and the Wicklund Singing Voice Specialist Certificate (2010), and she was selected as a Master Teacher for the NATS Intern Program in 2021.

Sterre Maier is a Dutch voice specialist with extensive experience in theatre, education and voice coaching, having taught and directed in South Korea, Costa Rica, the Netherlands, Romania, Bulgaria, Mexico and the UK. In this session, she will look at the challenges faced by EAL speakers when learning accents of English and explore ways to approach coaching in an inclusive way. She will investigate what might be their strengths, how we can overcome obstacles and foster independence in their learning process.
