AJ Gibson is a Lecturer in Singing and Voice on the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre course at Buckinghamshire New University, having previously worked as an Associate Lecturer. She is currently expanding her pedagogical practice through a PGCert in Performance Teaching (HE pathway) at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
Holding a BMus (Hons) in Vocal Studies from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, AJ blends her technical training with years of hands‑on industry experience. A self‑described perpetual learner, she thrives on turning the “how‑to” of vocal science into the “let’s go” of live performance, making technical concepts accessible, practical, and empowering for every student she works with.
AJ’s core mission is to equip the next generation of performers with robust vocal health education. She is passionate about helping students advocate for themselves in high‑pressure environments, ensuring their voices remain resilient throughout their careers. Her work centres on preventative training, drawing on her qualifications as a Vocal Health First Aider and accredited Vocal Balance Technique teacher, and on evidence‑based practice, integrating vocal anatomy and physiology into performance assessments to deepen students’ technical understanding of their instruments.
Alongside her academic work, AJ is an active Musical Director and Supervisor within the local community. She currently leads productions for the Beaconsfield Musical & Operatic Society, including The Wedding Singer and Beauty and the Beast. Her performance background primarily lies in cabaret performances alongside roles in shows such as Company, as well as session work with the BBC National Chorus of Wales.
AJ’s dual perspective as both educator and practitioner informs her commitment to raising standards of care, training, and vocal wellbeing within musical theatre.
AJ earned her Accents and Phonetics certificate with Louisa Morgan and Joseph Griffiths-Bloor in 2024!
See what AJ said about the course:
"Very well presented by Joseph and Louisa, obviously very knowledgeable but also willing to learn from other participants experiences, which I find, always makes learning more engaging as those tangents can open up some interesting paths to explore."
