Patricia PE Janssen

Patricia PE Janssen is a singing and piano teacher, singer, medieval harpist, author, composer, choral director, Vocal Habilitation Professional, and Singing for Health leader.  She discovered the Voice Study Centre during lockdown with the first online short courses, and has enjoyed continuing her professional development through a wide range of courses on varied topics.

As a performer, she gives a voice to medieval music with her ensemble Mensurabilis. She is currently working towards her University Specialist Certificate in Medieval Music Research and Performance at the University of Lleida through Medieval Music Besalu.

She is a grassroots teacher with her own private studio, who believes that everyone deserves teachers with profound, up-to-date knowledge to help them use their instrument in a healthy and sustainable way, no matter their musical level. To that end, she also provides vocal health workshops for amateur actors, dance teachers and people with speaking professions.

Over the years, Patricia has built expertise in singing for health, for which she is a pioneer in Flanders (Belgium). She was invited to give a lecture on her work with her Singing for Parkinson’s groups for a symposium on the voice and neurodegenerative illnesses for SLTs and ENTs. One year after the pandemic hit, she started with online singing for long COVID sessions, and hopes to submit a paper with her findings to an academic journal. She recently completed the ITOL-accredited course 'Singing for Health Practitioner: An Evidence-Based Perspective with Professor Stephen Clift' and is hoping to start a research project on the potential benefits of singing for people with multiple sclerosis (MS).
