Voice Study Centre Alumna Claire Turner’s Paper Published in Australian Voice’s Special Issue

Thursday 19th December 2024

We're delighted to share that Voice Study Centre Alumna Claire Turner has had a paper published in Australian Voice, which will be part of their special issue, ‘Insights and Innovations from Singing Practitioner-Research’.

The paper focuses on one of the main findings of a multiple-case study research project, exploring breath-focused one-to-one pedagogical singing sessions as a means of developing authentic voice in females with anxiety. The findings suggest that the programme of sessions effected substantial change in relation to participant authentic voice, alleviating breath and voice-related physiological tensions which catalysed increased ease, freedom, and flexibility of voice. Emotional and psychological changes additionally occurred in relation to such physiological release and participants’ relationship with voice are suggested to have become more centred around compassion, joy and curiosity.

Claire mentioned "I would like to thank Voice Study Centre for their support during my MA, and particularly Emily Foulkes, Pippa Anderson and Professor Stephen Clift for their guidance and encouragement. Also, acknowledgement and thanks to Professor Paul Gilbert and Dr Becky Chasey for their expertise and advice. Additional thanks to Dr Patricia Gerbarg and Dr Richard Brown for their inspirational breathwork teaching."

Congratulations, Claire!
