Jenru Wang has an MFA in Voice Studies with distinction from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London - in this session, he will begin to explore the complexities accent coaches might face in their work, examining the intersection of language, identity, and cultural sensitivity. Participants will explore how to navigate challenging situations in different contexts and understand what to do—and avoid—when working with diverse clients and materials.

Passionate about East and Southeast Asian accents, Jenru focuses on coaching and promoting authentic representation. He has served as Head of Voice at Fourth Monkey Actor Training Company and taught at several leading drama schools. Currently, he is the Senior Voice Tutor at Mountview and continues his professional development under the mentorship of Kay Welch.

This course is designed to unravel the complex processes underlying how we speak and sing, using simple and accessible language. This course will start from basics and assume very little prior knowledge. We will cover the basic structure of the brain and how it works in general, then narrow in on specific processes that are relevant to speech and song.
