Tuesday 21st July 2026, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM (London Time)

£30 - UK £30 - International

What is this short course about?

This presentation aims to introduce a cognitive-behavioural approach to understanding and working with low self-esteem. Low self-esteem is associated with a range of psychological and physical health difficulties, including issues relevant to voice disorders and vocal performance. The presentation will first define low self-esteem before discussing psychological factors relevant to its development and maintenance. It will review existing research which characterises low self-esteem as a commonly reported experience across voice use and voice disorder groups, with some suggestions for how this might then be approached within a voice clinic and voice coaching context.

Who is the short course for?

The presentation might be of interest to anyone experiencing or working with people who experience low self-esteem in the context of voice difficulties or vocal health challenges. It might be of interest to those interested in increasing their familiarity with cognitive-behavioural concepts related to voice use. While based mostly on clinically oriented research and practice, the presentation will hope to be of interest to those working both within and outside clinical contexts.

What is the format?

The presentation will include lecture-style content and case examples. It aims to provide a balance between theory and practical application, including suggestions for the use of cognitive-behavioural skills relevant to self-esteem in voice rehabilitation and vocal coaching. There will be opportunity for questions and discussion at the end of the presentation.
