Samyukta Ranganathan

Samyukta is an award-winning singer of Indian Classical Music (ICM) with an active teaching and performance career in New York City. She has trained primarily in Carnatic (South Indian) Music but has branched out to Hindustani (North Indian) music in the last decade. Her clients are of all ages and range from purely ICM singers to professional musical theatre singers looking to expand their repertoire and increase their versatility through ICM training.  Samyukta holds an MA in Voice Pedagogy for Indian Classical Voices at the Voice Study Centre and the University of Wales Trinity St David. Her research includes laryngeal registration for ICM singers, the mechanics of ICM vocal ornamentation and how to teach it, and incorporating compassion into ICM classroom settings with a goal to bridge the gap between scientific vocal technique and the oral tradition of ICM. She has presented her research at several conferences, such as PEVoC, VASTA, ISME, and NATS, and has been published in the journal Australian Voice. Samyukta also holds a Voice Teacher Training certification from New York Vocal Coaching.

PERFORMANCE CAREER:

While she was a graduate student at Columbia University, Samyukta had the chance to collaborate with and learn from some of the amazing talent the New York City has to offer. She has found herself thriving in this nexus of different musical styles.

Samyukta has headed up Indian Classical orchestras and has served as musical directors for stage and film productions in the genre.

Samyukta collaborated with the best musicians from around the world on her solo album “The Wandering Poet”. The project takes traditional Indian music pieces to arrangements in several genres including Latin, jazz, electronica, hip-hop and pop.

She continues to enjoy an active performance career in New York City.
