MA Student Lisa Strong’s Community Choir Journey

Friday 21st June 2024

MA Student (soon to be graduate) Lisa Strong has recently led sessions for a funded community choir in Jaywick. Lisa relied on her previous experience for inspiration: “I totally drew on all my work from the MA on belonging with all my years of pushing this community building through song. It was such a success I could hardly believe I did it.”

She continued, “I just knew what to do, how to feel my way, create that safe space with the research behind me. I really feel like I've put my MA into practice.”

Lisa has extensive experience in leading choirs and already runs her own community choir named the Walton Feel Good Choir, based in Walton-on-the-Naze. We have thoroughly enjoyed watching the choir blossom and foster a strong sense of community over the years.

Open to all, regardless of singing experience, this choir is best described as a friendly, non-profit group for everyone. Lisa’s motivation for starting the choir was to bring the community together by having fun, making new friends and building self-confidence.

This group isn’t just about music; it’s about fostering joy, connection, and community spirit. Under Lisa’s leadership, the choir performs at local events and enjoys group trips to shows. The choir selects a charity to support each year, raising money through their performances to make a positive impact on others’ lives.

Inclusivity is at the heart of the Walton Feel Good Choir, providing a safe space for individuals facing physical and mental health challenges to seek support and share their worries.

We’re excited for what’s to come in Lisa’s community choir journey, and we look forward to witnessing The Walton Feel Good Choir grow and continue to make a difference through song.
